Icons: how much is "enough"?

Since icons are one of the more popular things we offer, a major driver of paid accounts, and something that people often request ("more icons" is one of the most frequent suggestions), I'm curious as to what people would consider "enough" icon slots. I'm setting the low end of this poll at 250, which is the most available (premium paid/seed accounts) in any account offered now; please answer the point at which you'd feel you had 'enough' icon slots, however you define that:

When we do image hosting, one of the things I really want is the ability to make certain galleries 'icon galleries', so that you can then swap collections of icons in and out at a touch.

That would be amazing and would solve all of my personal icon problems very handily without raising the limit ♥

With that I'd say what you have should be fine, otherwise if you get a really good way of managing them at which point maybe 1000. Galleries that can be switched with no more than five clicks (which gallery to remove, which to insert, one to confirm or something like that) would actually interest me more. Especially if you could have several galleries open at once. For instance I can see wanting to keep open a core set, a seasonal one, a couple of fandom ones, plus some misc ones that don't really fit with the others and aren't of great enough interest or perhaps longevity (challenge related icons come to mind) to warrant being in any gallery.

That is really my only complaint about Dreamwidth. Any idea when that might happen?

And I can't concieve of ever needing much less using thousands of icons.

We're looking into the best way of doing it now! The answer to "how long" will be dependent upon what we find available out there for us to adapt.

That would be great for seasonal and challenge icons that are really only in use around a specific time :D
