A couple of times when I've moved into new (rented) houses it's become clear that I'm the first person who's actually read the tenancy agreement.
My current one told me in consecutive paragraphs that (a) I was responsible for keeping the gutters clear, and (b) I am not allowed on the roof.
My previous one, before I pointed out the absurdity, offered no way for me to ever leave. I would have been agreeing to rent the flat in perpetuity unless the landlord decided to kick me out!
In both cases the landlord was surprised when I pointed these issues out - clearly *they* hadn't read the contracts either, after they bought them from a off-the-shelf contracts firm.
