I never thought I'd find a blogging site that I could love as much as InsaneJournal, but Dreamwidth won me over in the first ten minutes. This post was really helpful in understanding why things are done and the plans for the future are really exciting!
My wife and I are going to keep our fingers crossed that more icons are able to be offered later on. We both bought permanent accounts and Insane Userpics over on IJ (that's 5000 icons), but realized that when we got down to it, we were only regularly using about 500 of them each. We'd gladly pay extra to reach that many here in the future (we've made a nice start with the 200 we got with our seed accounts) but also realize that as you said, userpics are expensive for the site.
